    No one knows me yet...
...so this is pretty pointless, but I did Beck's, so I'll post this here.

It was one of those days...
It was one of those days. You know the kind, early spring, so although it was cold outside, there was a promise of it getting warmer, and the birds were beginning to repopulate the northern parts of the States.

I was just in high school, and I was awkward, like most kids my age. I wasn’t a jock, or a nerd, but I was a drama fag. Except I didn’t think I was a fag.

    Not then, anyhow.

I’d gone out on a few dates, and lots of group get-togethers. I’d had a few uncomfortable kisses, but never really gone farther than that, and I wasn’t really sure why. I told myself that I just wasn’t into all that. I was more cerebral. I needed to find the right girl, and then I’d be all over her.

So there I was, walking to class, and I looked up, and I saw him. He’d just transferred in from somewhere out West, but I didn’t know that at the time. I just knew I felt like someone had hit me right in the solar plexus. He was looking at a schedule, and looking back up at the building in front of him, and he looked really lost. And edible.

I approached him, and I smiled, but it probably looked like rictus because I was so nervous. I asked him if he needed some help, and he turned and looked at me, and he smiled. It looked like the sunrise to me.

I helped him find his next class, and we became friends, but I never let him know that I thought he was drop dead gorgeous. I just couldn’t. He was straight, and if he’d known about me, things could have gotten uncomfortable. So I never told him.

When we graduated, I went to NYU, and he went to Stanford. We called a few times, but we both got busy with our lives, and I guess he’s probably married with some kids. I hope so. He was a really good friend.

So it was just one of those days, when winter is ending, and spring is just around the corner, and you begin to see your path through the snow.

    Failure
Sean's has just been approved for TM, and this is his first prompt response!

When you’re an actor, you get accustomed to failure. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve auditioned for a part I didn’t get. The first hundred times are hard, but after a while, you accept that maybe it’s not you.

You watch other actors be sent home as well. Some are better looking, and some are more talented, but they’re going home too. So it’s not so bad.

What sucks is getting the part, making a few episodes, then having the entire show cancelled. That’s happened to me twice now. I handled the first cancellation all right, but the second one really hurt.

You’ve probably heard of “Firefly”. I played Doctor Simon Tam, and it was a Joss Whedon show, so everyone had really high hopes. Everything Joss touches turns to gold, and we had a great cast, great camaraderie, and of course, great scripts. But somehow, we didn’t make it. Thirteen episodes, and we were gone. We had a wrap party, thinking we’d come back for another season, then we all got phone calls at home. It sucked. Seriously.

The cool thing was that the fans wouldn’t let it die. They formed groups and invited us to conventions and wrote fan fiction. They called themselves “Browncoats” and they were so good to us! So, the studio decided that just maybe, they could make a movie.

My greatest failure got me on the big screen. I walked the red carpet and man, it was great. I was back with my friends, waving at the fans, and it was just great.

I guess my lesson here is that even when you’ve failed rather spectacularly, you can still pull a victory out of the ashes. Sometimes.
